Dovato contains two active ingredients: dolutegravir, an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI), and lamivudine, a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI). INSTIs block the HIV enzyme integrase to prevent viral DNA from integrating into human DNA, while NRTIs block reverse transcriptase to prevent HIV from copying its genetic material. Using two different drug classes in one pill offers strong viral suppression and reduces the risk of resistance.
