When you take letrozole, the medication lowers the amount of estrogen your body produces by blocking an enzyme called aromatase. This reduction in estrogen can slow or stop the growth of certain types of breast cancer that depend on estrogen to grow. Some people may also experience side effects such as hot flashes, joint pain, or bone thinning.
