Imodium (loperamide) does not work for diarrhea caused by certain infections, such as those due to bacteria producing toxins (e.g., Clostridioides difficile) or some types of food poisoning. In these cases, stopping diarrhea can be harmful because the body needs to expel the toxins or infectious agents.
