Someone might be prescribed both levothyroxine (T4) and liothyronine (T3) if their body does not adequately convert T4 to T3, the active thyroid hormone. This combination therapy can help relieve persistent hypothyroid symptoms in some patients who do not feel well on levothyroxine alone.
