The medication has a boxed warning for risk of thyroid C-cell tumors, as seen in rats. It should not be used if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2). Boxed warnings are the FDA’s highest safety alerts and highlight the most serious risks.
