Eliquis is used to reduce the risk of blood clots (thromboembolism) and stroke in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (AFib). It can also prevent the recurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or pulmonary embolism (PE), and lower the risk of blood clots in the lungs and legs after hip or knee replacement surgery. These uses are valuable because they help protect against potentially life-threatening events in people at risk for abnormal blood clotting.
