Wegovy (semaglutide) is a GLP-1 receptor agonist prescribed for weight management. Current clinical studies have not demonstrated a significant effect of semaglutide on the absorption of oral contraceptives. However, because Wegovy slows gastric emptying, there is a theoretical risk that it could affect how much of your oral birth control is absorbed. Additionally, gastrointestinal side effects such as vomiting or diarrhea—especially if they occur within a few hours of taking your pill—may reduce contraceptive effectiveness. If you experience persistent GI symptoms or are concerned about your birth control, consult your healthcare provider. Always discuss any new medications with your provider to ensure they are safe and appropriate for your individual needs.
